• Director Ruben Östlund acquired inspiration for some scenes in the screenplay from real footage on YouTube. For example, the avalanche which serves as a momentum early in the story was inspired by a video Östlund found on YouTube, and a performance by a 12-year-old accordionist of Vivaldi's "Summer" was taken directly from a YouTube clip and played repeatedly throughout the film.
• Director Ruben Östlund showed the Internet meme "Best Cry Ever" to actor Johannes Kuhnke for reference and asked him to mimic it during a scene where his character weeps unabashedly.
• One of the last scenes in which a bus gets stranded on a steep hill is a near-identical re-enactment of an Internet video known as "Idiot Spanish busdriver almost kills students".

Most interesting '"food for thought" narrative compromised by lack of judicious editing
The Europeans do this kind of film so well.

FAQ
- Was Ebba actually lost in the fog, or was that a set-up to reassure the children that their father would rescue a family member? Or was it a test by Ebba to see if Tomas would "rescue" her? There didn't seem to be anything wrong with her, and she could have found the others by skiing towards their voices.
- The resolution was unclear to me. Why did they have to get off the bus and walk? I didn't understand the purpose of that scene, esp since Ebba was the most vocal once again, as Tomas was not acting the patriarch. Also, why leave the luggage on the bus? Why not use their cell to call for help? Seemed to me like Tomas saying "yes, I do" when Henry asked if he smoked, alluded to his newfound ability to tell the truth about himself? Wasn't sure about that either.
