• Jean McConville was a Protestant who converted to Catholicism when she married a Catholic (Arthur McConville, who died from cancer in 1972, leaving her a widow with ten children.) Her eldest son was an IRA volunteer who was interned in prison at the time of her abduction/disappearance. In 1999, the IRA indicated she was buried on a beach in Dundalk, County Louth in the Republic but an extensive police search failed to locate her body. However, four years later, in 2003, a storm partially uncovered her remains in the same area and were subsequently discovered by passers-by. She had been shot in the head. As of 2025, four of the ten McConville children are now deceased.

• The real Dolours Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea. During that period, Rea appeared in the movie for which he is arguably best-known in the United States: the romantic thriller The Crying Game (1992). In that film, Rea plays Fergus, an extremely reluctant and ambivalent member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) - the same organization that Price was involved with for many years.

• The name "Dolours" is derived from (and refers to) The Seven Dolors (or Sorrows) of the Virgin Mary in Roman Catholicism (although the Price family were not, especially, religious).
