• Various puppeteers from the original show who are still alive, including Joachim Hall (original performer of Spencer), Martin Leßmann (original performer of Kasimir and Moritz), Friedrich Wollweber (original performer of Poldi and Nero), Andrea Bongers (performer of the episodic character "Kugelrunde Kugelrunde"), Klaus Naeve (original performer of Karl-Gustav from the band "Quietschbeus" aka "The Screech Boys", as well as Protzikowski from the Knubbels) and Winfried Debertien (creator and writer of the original show) appear in the movie either as a human character or as a puppeteer or as both.

• Jan Böhmermann, who co-wrote the movie and played a role in it, is a long time fan of The Hallo Spencer Show (1979). He referenced the show a lot on his podcast "Fest und Flauschig", on own shows, including Neo Magazin (2013) and ZDF Magazin Royale (2020), showed parodies of it in the first episode of ZDF Magazin Royale (2020) and also had Elvis and Winfried Debertin as a guest in an episode.

• The plot of the movie is inspired by a true story of Hallo Spencer. Jakob Sesam is inspired by Spencer's creator Winfried Debertin. Also in real life the puppets, original scripts and the original sets were stored in an old disco "MicMac" in Hamburg, in the movie it is called "Coconut Cave". In both cases the disco suppose to be torn down but in order to save the disco the money should be collected by making a movie.
