• Casting Isabella Rossellini in a project about society's pressure to appear perpetually young and beautiful is a reference to a well-known aspect of her real life and career. Starting in 1982 and continuing for over a decade, Rossellini was a spokesmodel for and a prominent face of the French cosmetics brand Lancôme. But in the mid-1990s, the company abruptly and notoriously fired her just after she turned 40 for being "too old" to be the face of a makeup line.
• The show is based on a 2015 comic book series of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley,
• Based on the Image comic book series of the same name, this show takes a number of liberties in adapting the source material. For example: * The main characters, agents Cooper Madsen (Evan Peters) and Jordan Bennet (Rebecca Hall), replace officers Drew Foster and Kara Vaughn, who are the heads of The Beauty task force in the comics. * The television series also presents an entirely different set of enemies, allies, and narrative priorities that they have to face. There is no single person responsible for trying to spread The Beauty infection globally, but multiple people with a common theme of profit over people. * The metamorphosis of The Beauty is also quite a bit different. Instead of it being extremely painful, eerie, and grotesque as shown in the show, it is actually painless and rather subtle in its alteration of a person's body in the comic book series. * In the comic book series, the side effect of the Beauty does not cause the infected to lose control and crave large amounts of water and eventually explode. Rather, they simply burn on the inside without warning and feeling perfectly fine before it kicks in.
