Storyline

After the downfall of Cardinal Wolsey, his secretary, Thomas Cromwell, finds himself amongst the treachery and intrigue of King Henry VIII's court and soon becomes a close advisor to the King, a role fraught with danger.

• The weaving technique that Elizabeth Cromwell is shown doing with her hands is called Fingerloop Braiding, a popular technique used during the period to make cords, purse strings and laces for clothing.

• The series' executive producer, Colin Callender, stated in February 2015 that he hoped that the BBC would commission an extension of the series based on the final novel in Hilary Mantel's trilogy, The Mirror and the Light, which Mantel was then still in the process of writing. Callender said that lead performers Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis were "eager" to return.
