      "The idea for the film came from director Jafar Panahi's second prison stint, from July 2022 to February 2023. Although the Supreme Court had overturned his original six-year sentence on a statute-of-limitations ground, Iranian security services kept him detained; he was eventually released only two days after announcing a dry hunger strike. Held in the general prison population at Evin prison, rather than in solitary confinement as during his first imprisonment in 2010, Panahi spent months among hundreds of fellow inmates - mostly people who had opposed the government in various ways. Their stories inspired him to make a film about former political prisoners confronting a man they believe may have been their torturer.",
      "The film was shot in secret, without a filming permit from the Islamic Republic, over a harrowing 20-day shoot using only two cars for cast and crew to avoid drawing attention. The actresses mostly do not wear the hijab, which is compulsory for women under Iranian law. Despite these precautions, the crew was stopped and briefly arrested by police, and the camera was confiscated. Fortunately, most of the material had been stored on a separate computer, which was not taken. Filming ultimately concluded, and all the footage was then moved to France.",
      "Unlike many Iranian films critical of the regime, which omit cast and crew names to protect them, this one openly credits most of its participants. Panahi himself attended the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in person - his first appearance there since 2003 - accompanied by his wife, daughter, and several cast members."
