Did you know
• Before filming, director Suzannah Herbert spent a month and a half in the city of Natchez, immersing herself in the culture and connecting through the community's social circles. She met the Reverend Tracy Collins at the visitor's center, and he recruited her into his van tour to explore the less transparent history of slavery in the region. Collins and many of the other people she met made it into this documentary.
• The crew spent a total of 75 days filming in the city of Natchez, Mississippi.
• Director Suzannah Herbert came up with the idea for this documentary after having been invited to a wedding on a plantation shortly after she had finished her first feature film, Wrestle (2018). She began to question how people could use houses built and maintained by slaves as places for celebration and enjoyment. She discovered the city of Natchez by way of a research road trip through Mississippi, where all the historic mansions were built by slaves.
