• Before crossing the rope bridge over the river, Captain Yllescas asks about local Taliban radio chatter. The translator cannot fully understand the dialect but thinks they're talking about scarves. Capt. Yllescas is the only American soldier wearing scarf. The Taliban are watching the troops, they have been observing and studying the base as a whole, and are radioing to advise their trigger-man to wait for the man in the scarf (the highest ranking officer) before detonating the IED.

• Several soldiers in the film were played by actual soldiers from Combat Outpost Keating.

• Clinton Romesha has been critical of the choice of the actual Outpost Keating base in the Nurestan Province in Afghanistan where he served, describing it as "like being in a fishbowl or fighting from the bottom of a paper cup".
