• In the first drafts of the scripts Lu was supposed to be a vampire, but the idea was abandoned because it became too dark and they wanted to do something happier.
• According to the director, the similarities to Ponyo (2008) didn't strike him until they wrote the flood sequence.
• Fully produced in the Adobe Flash platform, according to animation production company Science SARU's website. Its North American premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival was sponsored, ironically, by ToonBoom, a rival system.
