⢠Many of the characters are combinations or alterations of characters from the novel, to make for a smaller cast and a less confusing plot: * Salome and Rosalie Otterbourne, a romance novelist and her daughter, become a singer and her niece/manager. * Andrew Pennington becomes cousin Andrew Katchadourian. * Marie Van Schuyler, a socialite and no relation to Linnet, becomes Linnet's godmother who has the ideals of Mr. Ferguson, the aristocrat turned socialist. * Windlesham, a character mentioned in the first chapter, is combined with Dr. Bessner to become Dr./Lord Windlesham. * Bouc, a character who appears only in Murder on the Orient Express, takes on elements of Col. Race, while his choice of traveling companion, his mother Euphemia, is reminiscent of the relationship between Tim and Mrs. Allerton.
⢠The details of Hercule Poirot's military service, tragic love, and the facial scarring that prompted him to grow his iconic mustache were all invented for this film. Despite writing dozens of novels and short stories featuring Poirot, Dame Agatha Christie didn't delve too deeply into his past. Though Hastings introduces him (in "The Mysterious Affair at Styles") as a retired policeman, and that Poirot talks about having been a policeman from time to time (as in "The Nemean Lion", "Lord Edgware Dies", "The Double Clue", and "The Chocolate Box") it seems safe to presume he was a policeman in Belgium, before becoming a refugee in the UK, also mentioned in "The Mysterious Affair at Styles".
⢠Poirot speaks to Salome Otterbourne of his plan to retire from detective work and grow vegetable marrows. This is what Poirot does in "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd".

FAQ
- Is this a remake or new story?
- Is this based on a book?
- I don't know for certain what type of paint Eugenia Bouc was using - it's suggested oil in the close-ups of her canvas work - but you cannot use oil paint to fake blood. First, it's basically like margerine, it doesn't 'bleed' and second, if you get that on your hands and clothes, the mess it makes, you're not washing it off without a LOT of turpentine. The smell of either would have been so pronouced, the whole room would notice it, yet alone a doctor. Nail polish is similar - just because it's red, it doesn't mean that a doctor examining the wound wouldn't notice the smell and stickiness and unusual brightness all over the clothes and hands.
