⢠"Daffodils is a universally resonant love story that is also uniquely Kiwi and driven by the songs New Zealanders grew up with. It's so great that the filmmakers will get to share this story with audiences soon," said Annabelle Sheehan, then New Zealand Film Commission CEO.
⢠The movie is based on the music theatre performance of the same 'Daffodils' name, created by Kitan Petkovski and Rochelle Bright (also the film's scriptwriter) for the Bullet Heart Club. The story-line is quintessentially a Kiwi, bittersweet love story integrating a mix tape of iconic New Zealand songs, re-imagined by Abraham Kunin and indie band LIPS (Fen Ikner and Stephanie Brown).
⢠Of the film's significant time period covered across three decades of the 20th Century, producer Richard Fletcher commented on how much of a challenge this was from a production point of view. He said: ''The film spans the 60s, 70s, 80s and present day and that meant that from a logistical standpoint, it was an enormous job for both the art department and the costume team. It also made scheduling a nightmare because it meant you had to shoot in a period of time and you couldn't really chop and change the schedule a lot, but it's what visually makes the film really interesting.''
