One of the preeminent screenwriters in Horror and Sci-Fi, Buhler made his debut in 2008 adapting Clive Barker’s Midnight Meat Train staring Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields. That same year he wrote and directed indie gore-fest Insanitarium for Screen Gems/Stage Six, shot on film in 19 days using practical effects.
Buhler has since established himself as a specialist adapting literary material including the works of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, R.L. Stein, Clive Barker, George R.R. Martin, Neal Schusterman, Steve Niles. He has written screenplays for studios including Ghost House, Amblin, Paramount, Fox, Orion, Sony/Screen Gems, Lionsgate, Universal and many independent producers.
His produced feature credits include Pet Sematary and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines for Paramount Pictures, original thriller The Prodigy for Orion/MGM, horror-comedy Studio 666 staring the Foo Fighters, and indie films Jacob’s Ladder, Eloise, and others.
In television, Buhler developed and served as show runner on the 80 million dollar co-production Nightflyers for SyFy and Netflix. Buhler oversaw every aspect of the series from writing the pilot and two other episodes, managing directors, overseeing Post
Production and the design and execution of 1000s of groundbreaking VFX shots. The series was shot in Limerick, Ireland and starred Oein Macken, Gretchen Mol, Jodie Turner-Smith, Angus Sampson, David Ajala and Brian O’Byrne. Buhler also developed the future-tech thriller Tempest with Rideback studios and sold the pilot to CBS in 2020.
In the fictional audio space, Buhler wrote and directed three original episodes for the anthology podcast Tales From Beyond The Pale for creators Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid.
He has a number of new series and feature films in development.
