Wamiqa Gabbi is an Indian actress who works in Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films.
Gabbi was born into a Punjabi family. Her father is a notable Hindi and Punjabi novelist. She studied at St. Xavier's School and completed her graduation from D.A.V College in Chandigarh.
Gabbi made her debut with the Hindi film
Jab We Met (2007), in which she played one of Geet's (
Kareena Kapoor) cousins. She then went on to feature in the Punjabi movie
Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 (2013) with co-stars
Yo Yo Honey Singh and
Amrinder Gill. She received a nomination for the best supporting actress for her role at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards.
Over the years, she continued to feature in other Punjabi movies like
Ishq Brandy (2014),
Nikka Zaildar 2 (2017),
Parahuna (2018),
Dil Diyan Gallan (2019), and
Nikka Zaildar 3 (2019).
Gabbi got her first lead role as Tanisha in
Sixteen (2013) and then another in the Telugu film
Bhale Manchi Roju (2015). From then on, she played the lead in various South Indian films, including the Tamil film
Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam (2016) and the Malayalam film
Godha (2017) with
Tovino Thomas. She won the best debut actress award for her performance in Godha at the Flowers Indian Film Awards in 2018.
She bagged another Tamil film,
Iravaakaalam, in March 2017, which was directed by
Ashwin Saravanan, and starring
Sshivada and
S.J. Suryah. She also featured as the lead with
Prithviraj Sukumaran and
Mamta Mohandas in
9 (2019).
In 2021, she appeared in a small role in the movie
'83 (2021), in which she played Annu Lal, Madan Lal's wife. In 2023, she did the Punjabi movie
Kali Jotta (2023). She also did a short film titled
Fursat (2023) with
Ishaan Khatter, directed by
Vishal Bhardwaj.
Besides films, Gabbi has appeared in web series like
Eclipse (2021) on Hotstar,
Mai (2022) on Netflix, and
Modern Love Mumbai (2022) on Amazon Prime Video.
She has also appeared in several music videos like
