Angelo Tijssens is a Belgian screenwriter who grew up in Belgium and trained as an actor before focusing on writing for film. He began his screen career with short films, collaborating with director Gilles Coulier. Their short *IJsland* was selected for the Cannes student competition, followed by *Mont Blanc*, which was later nominated for the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film.
Tijssens made his feature film debut as a screenwriter with Lukas Dhont on *Girl* (2018), a major international breakthrough that received widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards. He went on to co-write *Close* (2022) with Dhont and is attached to the upcoming feature *Coward*. In addition to these collaborations, Tijssens wrote *Julian* with director Cato Kusters and authored *Dust*, his first solo screenplay, directed by Anke Blondé. Alongside his screen work, he has published books that have been translated into multiple languages. Tijssens is a member of the European Film Academy and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and lives and works in Antwerp.
