Did you know
⢠Final film of John Garfield.
⢠Shelley Winters was at first unable to play in this film, because she was under contract at Universal Studios for I'll Wait for You (1941), and she could not afford to lose her contract. So she went on an eating binge and gained twelve pounds in ten days, and her costumes for Little Egypt no longer fit; Universal then decided to go with Rhonda Fleming. This allowed Winters to play in John Garfield's film, as she wished to in the first place.
⢠Director John Berry and co-scripter Hugo Butler's names were removed from the credits for a time after release, due to the blacklisting of supposed Communist sympathizers at the time. Assistant director Emmett Emerson is thus often credited as the film's director.
