• The 62-year old Clint Eastwood (with the help of a safety belt) actually did hang six stories above the ground on the ledge scene, although stuntmen did the jump and the fall onto the fire escape.
• John Malkovich improvised the scene where he puts the gun into his mouth. Executive producer and director Wolfgang Petersen liked it so much, he left it in the movie. Apparently, Clint Eastwood started laughing off camera, that's why you see Malkovich smiling while the gun is in his mouth.
• This marks the first time that the Secret Service offered its full cooperation in the making of a movie.
