Jeremy Sisto is actually a practicing Buddhist due to his father, though he grew up having Roman Catholic faith.

Sir Gary Oldman was initially offered the role of the male Satan. He turned it down, but asked for a different role which turned out to be Pontius Pilate. The role of Satan (male counterpart) ultimately went to Jeroen Krabbé.

Evangelist John MacArthur has criticized the series for it's lack of authenticity and unrealistic crucifixion scene as a Jew from the crowd (not dressed as a Roman) nails Jesus to the cross. This was also a big problem with the mini series Jesus of Nazareth.
