⢠Following the 2016 Uri terror attack and subsequent military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) demanded a ban on Indian films featuring Pakistani artists. This movement specifically targeted Raees due to the casting of Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. While industry pressure and public protests led to calls for her replacement, producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment maintained her role in the film. However, to ensure a peaceful theatrical release on January 25, 2017, Shah Rukh Khan met with MNS leadership and agreed that Mahira Khan would not travel to India for promotional activities. Additionally, the producers reportedly committed to avoiding Pakistani talent in future projects.
⢠The film's narrative drew significant parallels to the life of real-life Gujarat underworld figure Abdul Latif. Despite a lawsuit filed by Latif's son, the filmmakers maintained that the story was a pure work of fiction.
⢠Farhan Akhtar originally intended to play the role of Majmudar but opted out to focus on other production commitments. Following his departure, the production team approached Fardeen Khan for the part. Khan declined the offer, stating that he was on an indefinite hiatus from acting and intended to make his return exclusively through a home production. Nawazuddin Siddiqui subsequently signed for the role.

Engaging Gangster flick but the story is bit old and could have been better but overall it is a watchable flick
