Did you know

• According to James Woods, his role in this film was one of his toughest because his character had to constantly be angry with Michael J. Fox's character, who he found very likeable in real life.

• The climatic sequence on top of the Smoking Gunn II billboard in Times Square took ten days to shoot, with New York City traffic put to a stand still, and crowds of on-lookers from all over the city, including tourists, gathered at night to watch the filming. All local television news stations, along with those from Europe and South America covered the nightly shooting. The billboard was compared to that of the Camel cigarettes sign of the 1950s, with smoke puffing from it as a main attraction on Broadway.

• Universal Studios originally wanted Kevin Kline and Gene Hackman to star.
